Sony announces new HVL-F43AM flash and more accessories

Today, Sony announced a new mid-level flash for Alpha users, the HVL-F43AM. It succeeds the previous model HVL-F42AM unit and offers the innovative 'Quick Shift Bounce' that was only reserved for the higher end HVL-F58AM model. It has a slightly stronger flash output with a guide number of 43 and has a new menu and layout design, similar to the higher end flash. In addition to this, the flash also offers wireless ratio control which makes it easier to control other flash units (3 maximum). It also features a dust and moisture resistant design which makes it suitable for shooting outdoors and indoors.

In addition to the new flash, Sony also announced the following products for the Alpha system.

Bracket (VCT-55LH)
 Soft Carry Case (LCS-AMB)
Lens Hood for 35mm 1.8 and 85mm 2.8 LCS-AMB

Photos #289-319

exposure: 1/4000sec f/stop: 2.8 iso: 200

A wine glass full of red cordial. This was so fun to shoot and so messy at the same time. I did this in the studio and with a pillow covered in plastic to protect it from the liquid and more plastic all over the floor. Flicking the wine glass and getting it right in the frame was a challenge since I was doing this by myself but after so many tries I got it right. I love this shot.

 exposure: 1/60sec f/stop: 6.3 iso: 100

I love this city!

 exposure: 1/4000sec f/stop: 10 iso: 100

Fast action shots are always fun to shoot for me. Water drops from my shower head is no exception.

exposure: 1/160sec f/stop: 14 iso: 100

I did some off camera flash for this random plant in my backyard. Nothing special =.)

exposure: 1/4000sec f/stop: 6.3 iso: 200

Some of you may be thinking, "What a waste of a beer bottle" but when it comes to photography, I think it was well worth it. I did at least 15 shots trying to get this right and this is the only shot that looked decent. There were at least 15 smashed beer bottles in my garage but this was so fun.
exposure: 1/3200sec f/stop: 14 iso: 100

Just another one of my many fast action shots.

 exposure: 1/3200sec f/stop: 2.8 iso: 400

Christmas is approaching and time to put up the decorations at the nursing home.

exposure: 1/200 f/stop: 2.8 iso: 100

This was such a tiny little tomato in my backyard. If only I took this photo next to my hand, you would see how tiny it was.

exposure: 1/4000sec f/stop: 14 iso: 100

If you look closely you might see two people on the left. Marione thought it looked like someone holding a guitar. I'll leave it to your imagination for you to figure out what you see.

  exposure: 30sec f/stop: 13 iso: 100

I was at Cahill Expressway overlooking the rocks this night. Cityscape photos are always fun =D

 exposure: 1/30sec f/stop: 2.2 iso: 200

Just one of the props that will be used on one of JMCK's shoots.

 exposure: 1/640sec f/stop: 7.1 iso: 100

This was taken on a cruise for work and it was a costume party. I had to go out and take some sunset photos since I hardly ever get a view like this.

 exposure: 1/125sec f/stop: 4.5 iso: 100

If grapes had faces, this is what they would look like when you squeezed them.

 exposure: 1/4000sec f/stop: 11 iso: 100

I did some apple drops with a wireless flash to the right. I took so many photos of these and this is one of my favorites. I can't wait to do more photos like this.

 exposure: 1/80sec f/stop: 2.8 iso: 100

I was out in the garden and this fly was in one of my mums pot plants. I was thinking it would just fly away when I got close to it but it stayed still. Maybe it wanted me to take its photo but it was pretty cool that I got so close. If I had a longer macro lens that would've been even better.

"How could they doubt you, never think about you
Don't they know nothing's possible without you
Life as we know it, it all begins with Him
Life as we know it, it all ends with Him"

exposure: 1/160sec f/stop: 6.3 iso: 100

Just a self portrait of myself trying out my new flash triggers that I bought from eBay. Not bad but they suck with sync speed anything faster than 1/200sec.

 exposure: 1/8sec f/stop: 13 iso: 100

I don't know what this plant is but its got a cool looking pattern.

exposure: 1/80sec f/stop: 2.8 iso: 100

One of the many fish available at the Sydney fish markets =.P

 exposure: 1/80sec f/stop: 5 iso: 400

I saw this dog dressed up with a bandanna tied around its neck waiting for his owner. As the owner came from trying to sell some magazines, the dog ran up to him all happy and as they sat down, the owner gave him a hug. I love watching things like this.

exposure: 1/10sec f/stop: 2.8 iso: 800

Shadows of a couple waiting for the traffic lights.

 exposure: 1/30sec f/stop: 2.8 iso: 1600

Now this is a chicken and avocado wrap with noodles and aioli and this was so delicious! Kudos to Marione for making this for me.

exposure: 1/60sec f/stop: 3.5 iso: 100

Christmas at my place and heaps of food. Just one of the tables with food and lets not forget the lechon (pig).

 exposure: 1/4000sec f/stop: 7.1 iso: 100

Simple and fun shot of high speed off camera flash. I had one flash on the left and one on the right and I poured some powder on my desk. Then I bounced a tennis ball and used my remote trigger to take the photo.

exposure: 1/125sec f/stop: 11 iso: 100

Now I needed help with this shot since I couldn't hold the spoon and the honey whilst taking the photo so I had Marione assist me on this one. I love the detail and the swirl of the honey in this photo.

 exposure: 1/60sec f/stop: 2.8 iso: 100

After I finished jogging this day at the bay run I had some time to take some photos and as the sun was setting, the city looked like this.

exposure: 1/40sec f/stop: 2.8 iso: 800

After dropping Marione home one day, we saw the dog's head sticking out of the door. From far away we thought it was stuck cause it was like that as we pulled up into the driveway but really it was just doing that cause it was bored?. Funny dog =)
exposure: 1/4000sec f/stop: 14 iso: 100

I used my macro lens to take this shot. Poured soda water into a glass container for the bubbles and cut a piece of lemon to take this photo. The detail of  the lemon and the bubbles are so sharp.

 exposure: 1/20sec f/stop: 2.8 iso: 800

I was at my aunty's place today and as you enter her house, she has this painted on the wall. This is pretty cool.

exposure: 1/10sec f/stop: 8 iso: 100

Light painting of a mushroom in my front yard, so I didn't have to use my flash.

 exposure: 15sec f/stop: 10 iso: 100

I was at star city for the New Year's Eve fireworks welcoming the new year. This is my last photo for the 319 project and chose this photo to celebrate my completion of this. Hope you enjoyed checking out my photos and I think I can say that my photos have improved a lot over the past year.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far.
Now on to my next project..

Introducing the Sony NEX FS-100

Hi everyone.

I don't usually post up announcements on video cameras but since this is using the E mount (the same as the Sony NEX 3 & NEX 5 cameras), I thought that I would blog about this. It's basically a video camera with interchangeable lenses with more advanced controls and flexibility than a DSLR with video. The camera has an EXMOR super 35mm CMOS sensor which is pretty much the same size sensor found in APS-C cameras and is capable of recording up to 1920x1080 60p at 28Mbps with a number of other frame rates available.

Now I don't understand much about video cameras but if I were serious about videography, I would definitely consider this an option as I would be able to use my current lens lineup on this camera via a lens adapter.

The following is a trailer of the Sony NEX FS-100
